About

It started on an apartment wall.

Tacksnap began as Unit 5D, a cork board in a Denver apartment with a little photo printer next to it. Friends took photos on their phones, the printer spat them out, and within a week the wall was the first thing every visitor looked at.

Why bars, breweries and weddings

Phones take thousands of photos that nobody looks at again. A print is different: you hand it to someone, stick it on a fridge, or pin it to a wall where the next person sees it. Bars and weddings are where the best photos get taken, and where a wall of them means the most.

Photo booths already exist, but they take up floor space, need an attendant at events, and give everyone the same props. Tacksnap uses the camera already in every pocket, fits on a wall, and runs itself.

How it's built

Each box is a locked steel cabinet with a professional dye-sublimation photo printer, a small computer that talks to our servers, and a status light. Guests use a web page, not an app. Prints get a film look, a date stamp and a handwritten caption, rendered on our servers at 300 dpi.

Common questions

Is Tacksnap a real company? Tacksnap is a concept product, designed and built by Will Loughlin as one of his 30 websites in 30 days. The printing software runs for real on the original apartment wall.

Where does Tacksnap operate? The plan is the Denver metro: Denver, Boulder, Golden, Lakewood and Aurora.
